India ODI World Cup Preparation: After success at T20 tournaments, BCCI is planning to have more ODI matches so that India will be ready for the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2027. Players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will play a big role in this prospect as well.
India has performed well in ICC tournaments, winning multiple ICC men’s T20 World Cups and multiple ICC Champions Trophy. However, India hasn’t won the ODI World Cup since their monumental win at the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup and so this is a massive goal for them in 2027.
BCCI Has Agreed to Host More ODIs for Increased Readiness to Compete in World Cup
BCCI has received recommendations from many ICC member countries to add additional ODI matches on India’s tours outside of the country. The BCCI is open to this idea as it will give players additional gameplay time before the international tournament.
Since Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli currently play only in One Day Internationals among the world’s formats, this is very important as more ODIs would enable both of them to remain in form and maintain the rhythm they’ve created prior to the World Cup in 2027.
With the abundance of media attention this topic has received, many fans and analysts are suggesting that more ODIs would improve India’s chances for next year’s World Cup.
International Matches Scheduled for the Future
After the IPL (Indian Premier League) completes in May, India will most likely return to international cricket.
India will host the Afghanistan national cricket team on a short tour consisting of 1 Test match and 3 ODIs against Afghanistan.
After this series, India will travel to compete against the England national cricket team in a series consisting of 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is vs England.
There are also talks of the possibility of playing a match vs. Ireland during the England tour.
Other Upcoming Bilateral Series
Apart from the tours mentioned above, other cricket boards have requested to play additional matches against India. The cricket board of Sri Lanka wants to play more white-ball matches.
The Indian Cricket Team will be competing in a set of limited-overs matches against Bangladesh, West Indies and New Zealand ahead of the 2027 Cricket World Cup, with prospective additional ODIs being added by New Zealand as a result of India’s planned visit.
The additional ODIs will be an excellent way to increase the readiness of India’s ODI team, as well as develop team partnerships and experiment with different game plans before the 2027 World Cup.
Virat Kohli has already begun his preparations for the IPL 2026 season on social media, with videos of him training hard in nets. The videos have attracted a great deal of attention from fans and generated buzz about the upcoming IPL season.
With so many cricket matches in the works, the BCCI’s potential addition of ODIs for India’s ODI preparation will help shape the Indian strategy for the 2027 Cricket World Cup. With seasoned players like Kohli and Rohit as the foundation of this strategy, the road to the 2027 Cricket World Cup is becoming one of the sports news headlines today!
